March 11, 2007 Meeting
This meeting, held at RFH's Hide-a-way just north of Phoenix, was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Tom Hudson.
Some of the members at the start of the meeting. Committee Reports: Treasurers Report Chris French gave his report. (Full report on "members only" page) The club is in good financial shape. Junior Club Advisor Report Jeff Edgarton reported that the Juniors had 15 members signed up as of the last meeting, with the possibility of a couple of more that will be attending the March 27th meeting. Jeff stated that, at this meeting, the Juniors will be electing their officers. Connell Raate will be presenting a seminar on knot tying too. Jeff also reminded everyone that the Junior club is open to all Juniors, male and female, from 8 to 18 years of age. He has put a limit on membership to the Junior Club at 25. He feels that that number will be enough to handle for the first year. Members wanting to have their family members join should contact Jeff ASAP. He already has Dick Hyde's and Dominick Mayo's grandsons involved, plus Vern Robinson's son and Joe Hamon's son and daughter. Jeff also reported that the Juniors will be holding fund raising activities to purchase T- shirts, a digital scale to weight their fish, and other necessities to start up their club. They are also planning a Casting Kids competition in the Central Square Wal Mart parking lot for this summer. Tournament Committee The tournament committee reported that they had booked 3 rooms in Ticonderoga for the CTC tournament to be held in August. Cost will be around $900.00 for the 3 rooms. A question came from the floor if it was possible to change our tournament on Sunday June 17th, to Saturday June 16th, so that some of the members may attend the Federation Open Tournament of Oneida Lake. After discussion it was decide that we have moved the dates around too much already this year and it would be best to keep the dates where they are right now. The committee did advise everyone that next year they will be putting together the 2008 tournament schedule the first part of December and they will be working around as many of the Federation events as possible. CTC fund raiser at Bass Pro Classic, March 17th thru March 25th Committee Jack Loughrey passed around his list of members who had committed to working the Classic. Members signed up for working times for the next two weekends. Although we have just enough to cover, we can always use extra help. If interested, contact Jack. New Business Dominick Mayo reported that he had received a letter from Bass Club Digest. They wanted to feature our club in one of their issues next winter. Secretary Paul Hudson will get together with some of the founding members of the club and come up with a history of the club. Also webmaster Connell Raate we will put together some pictures of the club in action during this summer. Dominick will contact Bass Club Digest to find out the size of pictures and format that they want the article in. Weigh master, Jack Loughrey, gave his report on purchasing a new tournament scale. We can purchase a new LARGER scale with a few more features for $399.00, plus shipping. This new scale has a 1 year warranty. The advantage of this new scale will be that the controls and read outs are remote, not under the basket where the water from the fish drip down onto the electronics. This dripping water is what has been causing most or our trouble the last few years. Discussion was held, and a brochure was passed around showing the new scale. A question was brought up about how much a service contract would cost for the new scale. Jack did not know, because he had not remembered to ask. A motion was made & seconded to "Purchase the new scale for the $399.00 plus shipping if a service contract is available for purchase after the scale goes out of warranty for around $100.00 for a 3 year contract." Discussion was held and a vote was taken. Passed. A motion was made & seconded to "Loan the Junior Bass Club our present scale for one year. Next year at this time we will discuss giving the Juniors this scale or continue loaning it to them." We are only "loaning" them our present scale for this year because we still have 1 year left on our service contract. This will keep the service contract in force. Discussion was held and a vote was taken. Passed. Next up was a presentation by Dick Hyde on Tru-Tungsten weights and lures.
Dick Hyde gives his Tru-Tungsten presentation. Dick Hyde, always a good presenter, gave us another one of his great, and helpful presentations. He spent a lot of time showing us the Tru-Tungsten weights and telling us about the advantages of using tungsten over lead. Dick told us about the extra sensitivity this dense hard metal can give us over softer, less dense, lead or brass. When you drag a tungsten weight along the bottom you'll be able to distinguish between bottom compositions, such as sand, gravel, rock, mud, and wood much easier than with any other conventional bullet weight. Along with extra sensitivity, the smaller diameters of tungsten weights allow them to slip through snags much more easily than lead. Tru-Tungsten has perfected the tungsten bullet weight. They are able to machine this metal into a true bullet shape so our weight slips through cover easily, and the rounded and polished central hole eliminates the need for a plastic insert.
Members crowd around to see the Tru-Tungsten products. Much to everybody's surprise, Dick showed us some of Tru-Tungsten's new Spinner Baits and Buzzbaits. Tru-Tungsten Buzzbaits and Spinner Baits are extremely low profile, allowing for incredible action and feel. Tru-Tungsten is 50% smaller than lead. Super-sharp Black Nickel hooks are used, and the Hydro-Silk high-tech polymer skirt not only floats in the water with incredible life-like action, but also holds a scent and will not melt. Dick ended his presentation by telling us that most of Tru-Tungsten's products are available at Bass Pro so we will be purchasing our new weights this coming weekend when we are at the Bass Pro Classic. If anyone can't make it to Bass Pro, you can order the product by clicking on either of these two links. Dick ended his presentation by giving all of the product that he had demonstrated to our tackle box that we will be raffling off at the Bass Pro Classic this next weekend. Thank you again Dick. Next meeting will be held at RFH's Hide-a-way on April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Beer and wings start at 5:00 p.m. See you there. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. |
