January 2007

Meeting and Awards Dinner

Our annual awards / family dinner was held on Saturday, January 20th at President Tom Hudson's garage; AKA "The GOB Club House". This is when we hold our January meeting too. Thanks to Tom and Sue for putting up with us each year.

Banners and table with all the "goodies" to be given away. Our sponsors are always very generous with their donations.

Lowrance donated an H2O I finder.  Plano donated a pickup truck load of tackle boxes. Bass Pro donated two large tackle bags and five graphite fishing rods.  Venom Lures donated big 50 count bags of tubes. Mustad  donated enough fishing line, hooks, hats, etc. that we were able to send  each Club member who attended the event home with easily over $50.00 of product.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. we filled our plates with all the food prepared by our members and their wives. Too bad our fish boxes can't always be as full as everyone was after that feast!  Yum.

We started the meeting with a presentation by Dominick Maio. He informed us on the process of the GOB Junior Bassmasters. The Juniors will be holding their first meeting on January 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Central Square Fire Station in the square. Dominick reported that he has 8 members with their paperwork in as of this meeting, and has had reports of others waiting to attend on the 30th. Dominick also informed us that Onondaga County has now implemented a fish release program for the Oneida Shores Boat Launch. The bass clubs must now have a boat, or assign some of the bass boats, to transport the released fish off shore into deep water. This only applies to Oneida Shores Launch. We can still release fish on shore at any of the DEC launches.

The floor was then opened for nominations of officers for the 2007 season. Nominations were made and seconded for the following offices:

President                            Tom Hudson

Secretary                            Paul Hudson

Treasurer                            Chris French

Tournament Committee        Ryan Smith, Jack Loughery, Garret Kinney

There were no other nominations from the floor. Voting will take place at our February meeting to be held on February 18th at RFH's Hide-a-way.

Chris French gave a Treasures Report. The report is on the "members only" page.

It was then time to hand out the "Angler of The Year" and "Big Bass of The Year" prizes to the deserving winners.

Dick Hyde representing Bass Pro awards the tackle bag

Ryan Smith was "Angler of The Year" and along with a cash payment of over $100.00, he received a soft-sided tackle bag from Bass Pro.

Jack Loughrey won the "Big Bass of The Year" with a 5.24 pound largemouth. He also received a cash prize of over $100.00 plus a soft-sided bag from Bass Pro.

Brooks Wright wins the Lowrance

We then started drawing for door prizes. The first door prize to be drawn was the Lowrance H2O I finder.

The members wait for their number to be drawn. Brooks is already studying his new Lowrance.

We then drew numbers out of the "pumpkin" one at a time and everyone came up to choose a door prize. We had enough prizes that we went through the whole process 4 times.

Be sure to contact Tom Hudson and get your dues paid. We have new members waiting to join, and our membership is held to 30 active members. We will fill up in a hurry, so don't procrastinate.

Good luck to everyone this year.
