January 2006 Meeting and Awards Dinner
Our annual awards / family dinner was held on Saturday, January 14th at President Tom Hudson's garage; AKA "The GOB Club House". This is when we hold our January meeting too. Thanks to Tom and Sue for putting up with us each year.
Even though it's cold outside and bass fishing is a few months away, we had a very good turn out. Tom's driveway and yard were filled with members' cars.
Lowrance X 67 & Plano tackle box Bags of "goodies" The work benches were filled with door prizes donated by our very generous sponsors. We thank each and every one of them. Lowrance donated an X 67c fish finder. Plano donated a pickup truck load of tackle boxes and foam lined gun cases. Bass Pro donated two large tackle bags and two graphite fishing rods. NAPA donated two gift certificates valued at $75.00 each for boaters to use to purchase new batteries. Thanks to the hard work of Dick Hyde, this year we welcome Mustad as a brand new sponsor of our club. They donated enough fishing line, hooks, hats, etc. that we were able to make up bags filled with their products for each Club member who attended the event. There was easily over $50.00 of product in each bag. Ken Waite from Stonewood Group, Inc. donated many Remington / Stren products. Remington will be using their own "in house" salesmen this year and will no longer be a sponsor. Ken's group is picking up a new gun line to be announced soon and he promises to work hard to get our club on their staff.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. we filled our plates with all the goodies that were donated by attendees. Too bad our fish boxes can't always be as full as everyone was after that feast! Yum.
We started the meeting with a presentation by Dominick Maio. He informed us about the impending offers by both BASS and FLW in their attempts to have the local federations come in under their banners. There is going to be a meeting of the NYS BASS Federation on Sunday, Jan. 22nd at the Quality Inn in Liverpool. Tom Hudson and Jeff Edgarton will be representing the GOB club. Any other member who wants to attend is also welcomed.
Next Jeff Edgarton brought us up to date on his work with forming the GOB Junior Bassmasters Club in Central Square. The Central Square School System is behind this 100 % and will be providing a place for the Juniors to meet. The school system will also use their buses to transport the kids to tournaments. Because the Central Square School System is backing this project, membership must be limited to youths up to the the age of 18 who reside in that school district. The first official meeting will be held soon and Jeff already has 15 kids interested. It was decided that this being the first year, membership in our Junior Bassmasters Club shall be held to 25. The Junior Club will be under our Club umbrella, but they will elect their own officers, collect their own tournament monies, run their own tournaments, etc. We need only supply an Youth Director, (Jeff Edgarton) and he will solicit many of us to attend meetings to teach these young people various things to help them on their way to good, fun, fishing. We have room on this web site for them to have their own web pages. I'm sure one of the Juniors will surely be interested in postings their news on this site. We had plenty of door prizes left over so Jeff will be able to give these out to the Juniors at their first meeting.
Tom Hudson made a suggestion that one of our "6 man team" take the reins and make the arrangements for the Federation Team Event to be held at Ogdensburg, NY this summer. Dick Hyde volunteered. Dick will look into making motel reservations and planning practice times on the river. Our "6 man team" for 2006 consists of boaters Dick Hyde, Aaron Sheldon, and Jack Loughery. The non boaters are Ryan Smith, Eric Wilsey, and Chris French.
The floor was then opened for nominations of officers for the 2006 season. Nominations were made and seconded for the following offices: President Tom Hudson Secretary Connell Raate Treasurer Chris French Tournament Committee Ryan Smith, Jack Loughery, Garret Kinney
A motion was then made and seconded that section 2 of our by-laws be changed to read: Tournament fees for non- boaters shall include $10.00 extra (collected at said tournament by the Treasurer), and that extra $10.00 MUST be given to the participating boaters for gas money. The non-boater may contribute more if he wishes, and the boater may refund the money to the non-boater or contribute it to the club treasury if he so wishes. Any boater without a non-boater shall receive no extra monies. This is a change in the by-laws and must be voted on during the February Meeting (Sunday, February 26th 2006 at the Pizza Hut in Fulton, NY. Pepsi and pizza party to start at 5:00 p.m. and the meeting to start at 6:00 p.m.). A 2/3 majority of the members in good standing is required for this change to pass. To be eligible to vote your 2006 dues must be paid in full before you can vote. You may vote in person or via e-mail.
It was then time to hand out the "Angler of The Year" and "Big Bass of The Year" prizes to the deserving winners.
Dick Hyde was "Angler of The Year" and along with a cash payment of over $100.00, he received a soft-sided tackle bag from Bass Pro.
Chris French won the "Big Bass of The Year" with a 4.95 pound largemouth. He also received a cash prize of over $100.00 plus a soft-sided bag from Bass Pro.
Two happy fishermen!!!!!!!!!!!! We then started drawing for door prizes. The first door prize to be drawn was the Lowrance X67c. We chose only those members with boats who would use the depth finder to be in this drawing.
Paul Hudson, shown above, was the lucky winner. To make it fair, we then chose only those non-boaters who would use the Plano soft-sided tackle bag for this drawing.
Brad Rogers ( 3rd from right) was the lucky winner.) We then drew numbers out of the "pumpkin" one at a time and everyone came up to choose a door prize. We had enough prizes that we went through the whole process a second time.
Our total membership costs ( Club dues, National Bass dues and NYS Federation dues) are only $60.00 and everyone went home with more then that in door prizes alone.
Looks like the boys were hungry
Well-----not hungry any more.
Not much food left, but look - still some pie !!!!!!!!!! Never fear Tammy - we ate that too before Dominick left for home. The complete Treasures report is on the "Members Only Page". Be sure to contact Chris French or Tom Hudson and get your dues paid. We have new members waiting to join and our membership is held to 30 active members. We will fill up in a hurry, so don't procrastinate. Good luck to everyone this year. |
