Owasco Lake Pike Saturday, May 2nd 2009 Our pike tournament that we hold the first weekend in May every year is basically a "shake down" cruse. Designed to take the boats out and make sure that everything is in working condition.
We met at "The Green Shutters" at 5:30 a.m. for breakfast. Ron the owner was good enough to open early for our club, and served a great buffet.
The "eats" were great We started at 7:00 a.m. and fished until 1:00 p.m..

Out to the lake
Ready to go The water temp in the lake was 45 degrees and the fishing was slow. According to the locals, the fishing in Owasco is always slow until the lake warms to at least 50 degrees.
Paul and Chad both have a "professional over ran" at the same time.
Ron "V" and partner enjoying the day.
Members gather around for the weight-in. Only two pike were caught and entered.
Finishing in second place was Guy Cromp
And in first place was Jack Wilson Jr.
Well even though the fishing was slow, it was a great day on the lake. We have to keep reminding ourselves that they named the sport fishing and not catching. Today we did a lot of fishing and no catching. How did Jack do it.
Jack worked this spinner bait on the south end of the lake. Down at the south end the water temp was 52 degrees and the fish were more active. He lost a couple of bigger pike but still had the winning fish. |
