January 22, 2005

Every year we have a family dinner. This is the time that we get to honor our angler of the year and also the time that we, as a club, get together with our wives and family after spending many Sunday mornings away from them during the summer.

Again this year it was held in Tom & Sue Hudson's garage. Although we had the coldest day of the year and 14" of snow was falling, we were all warm and comfy in this garage, thanks to a wood stove.  Special thanks to Tom & Sue for being our hosts.

1 p.m. and the members start to arrive.

Everyone brings their favorite dish to pass, and the club provides the meat, drinks, plates, cups, and silverware.

Yum!!  Time to eat.

The menu included chef salad, fruit salad, deviled eggs, taco salad, meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, venison meatballs, cookies, brownies, soda, coffee and snacks of all sorts.  Anyone who went away hungry, it's their own fault!!

Things get quite, as bellies get filled.

File picture of Larry LaClair

Our "angler of the year" is Larry LaClair with a total of 48 bass and a weight for the year of 116.8 pounds. Unfortunately, Larry was on vacation in Florida and was unable to attend. The $100.00 prize money will be paid to him when he returns.

"Big bass of the year" goes to Jason Waloven. Jason's big bass weighed in at 5.31 pounds. He also will receive $100.00. (Jason's picture appears a bit later)

No prize money was paid out at the dinner as our Treasurer was called to work.

Door Prizes

The dinner committee makes great effort to collect enough door prizes so that every  member who attends gets a door prize worth at least what he or she paid in club dues. Thanks to our loyal sponsors, we were able to achieve that goal again this year.

This is the way we draw for door prizes. All prizes are placed on a table. Smaller prizes are bagged up to total at least $40.00 in retail value. Then members names are drawn from the "pumpkin" and that member comes to the table and picks whichever prize he or she wishes. This way the member gets something that he can use, and the sponsors gift is directed to someone who can use it.

Jason Waloven chose the Lowrance H20, handheld GPS

Aaron Shelton, Chris French, Ryan Smith, and Greg Breen

each chose  IM8 Graphite fishing rods donated by Bass Pro Shops in Auburn

Vern Robinson chose the Remington hunting knife and sheath

Connell Raate, Dick Hyde, Tom Hudson and Jack Loughrey

all chose bags of "goodies" from Venom, Smelly Jelly, NAPA, & Remington

The next meeting will be held at the Pizza Hut in Fulton on Sunday, Feb 27th at 6:00 p.m.  Voting will take place for the new officers who were nominated, as well as the changes to the bylaws.  We are working at getting a special speaker to attend this meeting also.
